Oooh that’s interesting, but I don’t know how they would get Elise safely to the villains without her being injured. That’s a really good idea though.

That’s a good point, I think Donaigh has shield powers right? Maybe Elise and Donaigh could be a team?

Angelique once mentioned that Sybilla had the same ‘pepper and salt’ hair colour for the past 20(?) years, Sybilla might be enchantress level or using illusion magic if she could live this long without visibly ageing. I think she might play a big part in this too.

Louisa

The book stated that Sybilla is a godmother, someone who just a little bit lower in power than an enchantress. Most likely her magic almost made it, but not quite, to the top of the canyon in her test. If that’s the case, then she probably has enough magic to slow her aging down like an enchantress.

Hey everyone I think I figured out are reflector of magic it’s Elise I mean The Queen specifically search for her and she defeated the witch by throwing her magic back at her like Farrin Did with Rakel so what do you think am I right

During quarantine, its been hilarious to imagine the Knights of the Round Table all cooped up in the mansion together and trying to figure Zoom out. Poor Merlin is going crazy 😂

I think that everyone of you who has these theories should create your own short story. Maybe Kitty will even make a place for all of these amazing and creative stories to be collected online where everyone else can read them, a fan fiction page or maybe a special website.

So I was talking with my mom and we’ve decided this totally happened. Elle convinced the gardeners to grow catnip so she could have catnip tea made. She gives Severin some and then stares at him. When he asks what’s wrong she sweetly answers, “Nothing.”

It would be hilarious if that happened! We are talking about the lady who is creative enough to lace Severin’s refreshments to keep him from overworking, so it is possible. I think when it comes to prancing Severin, Elle knows no boundaries.

I would love to see you do something with Josh from hall of blood and mercy.
I am curious if Dooley and Cagney ever get married.
And I would love to see Acri join the good side.

Now this is just out of curiosity but does anyone else think that a few people at the academy are really people the chosen had put there to weaken the Veno Conclave (I might have spelled that wrong).

Louisa

September 28, 2020 at 05:02 AM UTC

I’m wondering if one of the six members on the conclave is actually a Chosen, or at least being influenced by them. Although I don’t think it is the older one who keeps falling asleep. I actually think it was the one who seemed to be nice and maybe like Angelique and it was a ruse so they wouldn’t suspect him.

Dooley and Cagney do get married! Miss Kitty wrote a short about their love story called Meeting of Merchants. You can find it under For Champions and in Extras and Freebies.

Abigail

September 26, 2020 at 11:53 PM UTC

Also if people were put into the Conclave I bet one of them would be the Headmaster. Quarrellous said that when he found out the depth of Angelique’s magic, he said to watch her and be careful of her. That sounds like he is part of the Chosen and when they found out her power they wanted a way to stunt it. The Chosen would also need a person in power to be their mole/one of their moles and the Headmaster seems to be just that. Evariste saw him teaching a student who could create waking daydreams and nightmares. Someone sniffing out potential Chosen mages anyone?

Abigail

September 26, 2020 at 11:56 PM UTC

Also Clovicus stopped Evariste when he was going to talk to the Headmaster so we never got an excuse for what he did to Angel. That makes me even more suspicious.

I totally agree with you and also I will check out the short story you mentioned

Leila Duck

Something to consider: the Chosen aren’t concerned about the /romantic/ counterparts. They’re only concerned about the /magical and strategic/ counterparts. So Evariste is the counterpart of (elf friend portal mage), and Acri could be the magical counterpart of Farrin – without Acri being romantically involved with Angel (as Farrin was involved with Rakel). I feel like differences like that help prevent this from being like Disney’s live action remakes – enjoyable but uninspired.

Wimberleigh

September 27, 2020 at 05:14 AM UTC

I agree. While Evariste may Farrin’s counterpart romantically, Acri is most likely to fill all of the other parts of it. My favorite cannon is theory I developed; I think Angelique’s parents are involved to some extent with the chosen. The reason is because I don’t think many people are payed the courtesy of a “random” goblin attack. It is possible they may have been trying to stop the chosen; and went down with their work in the goblin attack. I know this may sound a little stretched, but I don’t think Lilliane would have devolved such a harsh view on Angelique going off what she was trying to make her be.

Louisa

September 28, 2020 at 04:48 AM UTC

Her parents were never mentioned as to having magic. It’s possible that the goblins were on their way somewhere else and attacked a small village along the way. I doubt that they would have wanted to awaken such a strong enchantress on the “wrong side.” And if her parents were working for the Chosen, then wouldn’t it have made more sense to kidnap a potential mage and then kill her parents (especially since they are going to need every mage they can get on their side when the battle arrives)?

Marietta

September 29, 2020 at 02:33 PM UTC

I agree. Evariste’s mentioned he was curious as to why Angelique wasn’t found earlier in her life. Her village was so remote and insignificant, it was over looked/unknown to the fairy godparents who are tasked with looking for potential magic users. I like to think the attack on Angel’s village was random and the stress of watching her parents get killed while protecting her (a natural parental instinct) elicited her magic to finally manifest itself outwardly. I also bet no one in her village even suspected she had this ability. I like to think that the shocking circumstances of her magic making itself known in, play a part as to the strength and depth of her magic. Angelique’s dad was a soldier, a person who protects others. This could influence Angel’s sense of duty and self identity. It is certainly the argument Quinn uses that finally reaches past Angel’s self-loathing and gets her to start thinking of her magic as something other than pure evil and she the victims of her magic. There is a true nobility in the idea and action of protecting others. It is a major motivator for Angel, but Quinn helps her see it as something that molds what her magic is and how she uses it. Evariste certainly tried to tell her that the character of the magic user infuses itself into her magic and helps to mold the magic into what it becomes.

This idea has amazing potential for Acri if he decides to flip sides, which I hope he does. I tend to doubt Acri is the magical counterpart to Farrin. He doesn’t have speed (that is Doniegh) and he doesn’t reflect other people’s magic. We have yet to find a true reflector of magic.

But the Chosen probably didn’t know that Angel even had the potential for magic. I don’t think they would avoid action on the off chance of maybe waking an unknown powerful magic user – they wouldn’t be able to do anything near people in that case. So they may well have been targeting someone in Angelique’s village. Or the attack may have had nothing to do with the Chosen at all. But I still like the head canon that Angelique’s parents were somehow resisting the Chosen.

Wimberleigh

September 28, 2020 at 08:03 PM UTC

Thanks! I think this because of the size of Angelique’s village; it may have been a way to ensure that the chosen didn’t snatch her up at a young age. They may have had a location leak. They were watching her at a young age, and Liliane may have decided to try and do what Tennebris had done make her recruits think they are in debt to her. Lilliane isn’t one for oversights, yet she went off what she wanted Angelique to be, which possibly means Lilliane is spiteful over what her parents did to try and stop her. She may not be one to make oversights, but She is probably not above being spitefully petty.

I don’t really do to much theorizing, but me and my sister love taking a world created in a book and creating a story there. I also keep trying to picture what makes killian from hall of blood and mercy, hate werewolves so much. In the first book he is mad with the trespassing wizard, but is way harder on the werewolf.

One thing that I thought would be kind of cool was if Morgan from MBRC and Brit from King Arthur and Her Knights got to meet at some point. Also I wonder what Morgan’s reaction would be if she meet the REAL Morgan Le Fay. I bet it would be amusing!

I have thought that Acri would be helped in a healing sort of way by Alastryn and that he comes to fight against the Chosen because he realizes how cruel his Mother is and that he has so much more freedom away from her. He begins to experience what living away from the toxic environment of the Chosen is like.

I’ve thought about Gemma’s pet having pups. That could get exciting. But mostly I wonder who’s going to help Angelique understand that she fights and defends so fiercely because she loves so deeply.

Kitty, have you seen Enola Holmes? I’m so glad it came out recently! My favorite romance is Stil and Gemma, so I like to imagine them having at least three or four kids and Stil teaching them magic and Gemma magic as one happy family after dinner. Cheesy, but great!

Since I figured out (read) that the Chosen were attacking the people most similar to the people in the Snow Queen’s time (Angelique/Rakel, Evariste/that portal dude who I forgot the name of, Severin/General Halvor, Stil/Tollak, etc.), I know that everyone’s been wondering who Farrin’s counterpart is. My theory is that modern Farrin is Acri, though I have no idea how he’s ever going to go over to the other side.

Sonu

September 26, 2020 at 06:19 PM UTC

Oh, I thought that too but then what about Evariste ?? . Will he become Oskar s’ counterpart?

Abigail

I am rather positive that Ragnar is Evariste’s counterpart. Both have portal magic and are elf friends.

I’ve been thinking about the ‘Modern Snow Queen Cast’ too! I’m not really sure about who Modern Farrin is but maybe some characters can have two roles?

Louisa

October 10, 2020 at 01:59 AM UTC

I don’t know about some characters having two roles, but it’s possible that two characters could equal them. Farrin kind of matches Donaigh and Acri, maybe even Elise a little. Although I think that Elise might be the “replacement” for Liv. The Chosen knew that her purification powers needed to be out of the way. But Elise’s null powers might help them in the fight to come similar to the purification powers. And Angelique’s powers litereally “eat” dark magic might be the rest of the “replacement” for Liv.

Another thing to through into the Acri theory mix is I think he is the only bad guy to have a POV in the actual book. I mean, Rothbart had a POV in a short story but I think that’s it. I wonder if that means that Miss Kitty has a special plan for him. Also if he changed over to the good side would his eyes change? Because his eyes are red I think. That might be kind of creepy.

Erica

Maybe he could swallow the same thing that Gemma’s dog did to become a light version of a hell hound lol

Louisa

October 02, 2020 at 10:45 PM UTC

I think that the hell hound only changed because he was cursed to be a hell hound in the first place and the light/good magic reversed it. So I don’t think it would change Acri having been born and raised to be bad. But it would have been nice if it had!

So since I read the 2018 (or was it 2019?) Hero Poll interview, I have imagined Rakel and Farrin with maybe 2 or 3 children, including Kai, practicing magic around the Verglas Palace. I’ve been itching to illustrate it but have sadly been too busy.

A Desire for Details

I’m always gobsmacked by how passionate you Champions are about my work. It’s a delight–and a shock–that I don’t think will ever fade! But sometimes your enthusiasm for a book is even greater than my enthusiasm for that project!

FAQ Reader Desire for Details

Rock-Star-Assistant Meg commonly fields emails asking for really deep details–like exact character heights, what happens to secondary characters after a book’s “The End” or backgrounds/origins for side characters.

I’m so honored Champions love the books that much that they want to know those details! I will never stop feeling awed and loved because Champions want to know more.

The problem is that as of 2020, I’ve written and launched 40 books. That is a lot of characters, world building, and events to keep track of. Combine that with all the novels I’d like to write (which at the moment between spin offs, sequels, and new series, I’m set for the next ten years easily in terms of book ideas) and you’ve got more information that I can reasonably keep track of.

Moreover, as an author friend of mine says, Authors write to get stories out of our brains. While my characters might feel like old friends–Severin, Elle, Britt, Merlin, and all my old characters will forever be in my heart–my focus is always on the projects/books I have planned for the next year or so.

Soooo when you ask me what Donaigh from Sleeping Beauty’s exact height measurements are…I genuinely have no idea.

The truth is that details like that get lost in my brain–particularly in a series like Timeless Fairy Tales where I’m obsessively trying to make sure all the hidden secrets and plot twists I inserted in there for Angelique’s series are all working together so the final “picture” is complete and tied together correctly. It gets even worse when the details are from a past series like King Arthur and Her Knights that I haven’t touched in years. My past books get buried by future books and plotlines that I haven’t written but I’ve already started mentally planning them out so I can figure out how to layer clues for the eventual ending! (ie: the drinking blood subplot in Hall of Blood and Mercy!)

But that doesn’t mean you can’t dream up your own backstories for my secondary characters, or decide on someone’s eye color yourself! 🙂

The delightful thing about books is that 100 people can read it and walk away with 100 different thoughts about it. So I give you permission to use your imagination and think of who you would like that secondary character to end up with! (Because chances are, I probably haven’t thought of it much since I wrote the book!)

That’s all for today’s frequently-asked-questions-blog-thingie! Thanks for reading, Champions! 😉 For a bit of fun, why don’t you share your favorite not cannon (not confirmed in the books) detail, character story, or wish down below?! I’ll share mine! I day-dream that Giannine from Heir Apparent by Vivian Vande Velde makes up with her dad and gets the happy family she wanted! And as for a favorite non-cannon detail from my own books, I’d like to think that Phile and Oskar (ahahah I can’t even remember how to spell his name anymore) ended up together and ruled sly-ly over the Thieves Guild which they used to support Rakel.
